Media Statement CAPE TOWN – Police members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit conducted stop and searched operations which resulted in the arrest of three males on charges of murder, attempted murder and the possession of unlicensed and prohibited firearms and ammunition in isolated incidents. The police members conducted tracing operations in Belhar policing precinct on Friday 22 March 2024. When they entered the identified dwelling in Extension 13, they found a suspect, wanted for murder. Upon searching him, the members found and seized a pistol with ammunition. They detained the adult male on charges of murder and the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. In an unrelated intervention the platoon pursued information and proceeded to Elsies River. Upon arrival at Kariena Court on Saturday 23 March 2024, they searched the occupants which resulted in the confiscation of a firearm with ammunition. The members arrested a 39-year-old man on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. Meanwhile the members responded to information pertaining a wanted person in Uitsig. They drove in convoy to Carnation Street, entered and searched the premises, confiscating a 9mm pistol with ammunition. They arrested a 26 year old man on charges of attempted murder and the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. The suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in Bellville and Goodwood Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charges. Ends
