Media Statement CAPE TOWN – Members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit conducted an intelligence driven operation on Friday night, 24 May 2024, which led to the discovery of abalone at an address in the Eersterivier area. The members searched the premises in Breede Street, Silwood Heights and found 27 bags containing 2, 917 units of abalone, with an estimated street value of R1,5 million as well as an electronic scale. Two suspects, aged 24 and 57, were arrested and detained at Kleinvlei SAPS on charges of Section 13 of Marine Living Resources Act 18 of 1998 Regulation 36 (Illegal Possession of abalone without a permit). The suspects are due to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 May 2024 on the mentioned charges. Meanwhile members of the same unit also deployed in Eersterivier precinct followed up on intelligence regarding a firearm and wanted persons involved in a murder that occurred in the area. The team proceeded to the identified address in Dessert Crescent, Silwood Heights and a search of the premises was conducted. A 16-year-old suspect was searched and found in possession of a Norinco 45 calibre pistol and 14 rounds of ammunition. The suspect was arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. He is due to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court soon on the mentioned charges. Ends
