GAUTENG – The Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) has taken decisive action against substance abuse in our communities with a series of impactful arrests over the past few days. Beginning Monday, 31 March 2025, the AGU has successfully apprehended three (3) suspects, in separate incidents, involving the illegal possession of drugs, including substances suspected to be crystal meth, mandrax tablets and powder, as well as nyaope. On 31 March 2025, a 31-year-old male was arrested along Dowling Street in Westbury for possessing substances suspected to be crystal meth by the dedicated AGU team. The following day, 1 April 2025, while the AGU team continued these successful operations, an 18-year-old male was arrested along Albertina Road in Langlaagte, for possessing of a variety of substances suspected to be drugs, including crystal meth, nyaope, numerous mandrax tablets, and mandrax powder. On Wednesday, 2 April 2025 another male suspect was arrested in Westbury with tablets suspected to be mandrax. These arrests highlight the effectiveness of diligent patrols and proactive stop-and-search operations carried out within our communities. Brigadier Maphoto, the AGU Commander, emphasized the critical role of community involvement in the ongoing fight against crime. “Residents are reminded that they remain the eyes and ears of the SAPS, and their tip-offs can significantly assist the AGU in combating crime, ensuring that those in conflict with law and order face the appropriate consequences,” he stated. The suspects will soon and have since appeared in their respective courts facing charges related to their possession of suspected illegal substances. Ends
