Media Statement GAUTENG – On Friday, 3 January 2025, members of the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) acted swiftly on credible information received while on patrol regarding a male suspect in possession of a firearm at a residence located along Main Road in Newlands. The AGU promptly responded to the tip-off, which included a detailed description of the individual. Upon arrival at the specified address, AGU members located a male fitting the provided description. The members identified themselves and requested permission to conduct a search, which was granted by the suspect. During the search, the AGU members discovered the following items in the suspect’s possession, one (1) black shotgun equipped with two handles and a sling, one (1) silver firearm, accompanied by an empty magazine and four (4) live rifle ammunition rounds. The 34-year-old suspect was unable to produce any licenses for the firearms and ammunition in his possession. As a result, he was informed of his arrest for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The suspect was transported to the nearest police station for detention. He will appear before the respective court soon.
