African National Congress (ANC) stalwart from the Eastern Cape, Nceba Faku, says he is pleased that the party is working to correct its mistakes.
This comes as the party reflects on how far it has come as it celebrates its 113th anniversary.
ANC officials around the country are attending various events as part of the celebrations.
The events will culminate in the celebration that will be held in Khayelitsha, Western Cape, on Saturday where the January 8th Statement will be delivered.
Faku says the party’s leadership has gone back to the drawing board.
“I am happy now, that the ANC has actually realised that it needs to draw the quality of its leadership that will be able to address those issues directly with the people and build up the structures of the ANC with leadership that will be able to understand and bring the people with it in addressing the issues.”

The former Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Mayor says the loss in the number of votes during the 2024 elections is because the party has over the years failed to deal with challenges faced by South Africans including crime.
“Indeed, we have challenges as a result, and a lot of opportunistic political parties have emerged to fill the space or the gap. There are a number of reasons for this. One of them, or some of them, if I may say, was that I think we somehow dropped the ball in terms of focusing on the core issues of the people – like crime issues, the rise of corruption, all these kinds of negatives that people were expecting the ANC to address, and unfortunately we were distracted by other personality and fashion issues.”
The Eastern Cape is home to some of the founding members of the party. Faku says the province is rich with the party’s history.
“Many of the founding leaders of the ANC are actually coming from the Eastern Cape. They were educated and acquainted with the ANC during their academic and intellectual development, you Fort Hare products, you Hilltown products and so on. You mention Oliver Tambo, Nelson Mandela, Dr Gubusana and many of these leaders.”
