The African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo has dismissed statements by USA President Donald Trump that the South African government is mistreating white people. The ANC says the executive order signed by the US president is lacking an accurate picture regarding the issue of land expropriation.
The party hosted the provincial version of its January 8th statement in Modimolle.
ANC leaders arrived to loud cheers at the Ephraim Mogale Stadium. The party acknowledged that more needs to be done to address service delivery challenges.
The celebrations come at a time when the US has just announced that it is cutting funding to SA based on its law of land expropriation. The party believes that the US is deploying bullying tactics.
ANC Limpopo Provincial Secretary, Reuben Madadzhe says government will not be bullied.
“We are not going to be deterred from what is on the table and be bullied like the president has said to do things that are not in our national interest because we need to serve the master. But we are saying as the African National Congress, South Africa is a democratic country. The issue that there are other races that we are ill-treating them, it’s farfetched and is something that we don’t know. We are living with whites here.”
Madadzhe also says the provincial government plans to visit the families of 10 soldiers from Limpopo, who are being repatriated from the DRC.
“Starting from next week, our government will be visiting the families again to just ascertain themselves as to what needs to be done to the families. But even ourselves as the African National Congress, we will be visiting the families so that we go comfort them during these trying times.”
Meanwhile, some residents and supporters of the ANC in Modimolle have called on the Limpopo ANC government to resolve the water and youth unemployment crises in their area.
“We want jobs as young people because there are too many unemployed people here in Modimolle so we are looking for jobs. I want the ANC to create jobs, create learnerships for the youth.Everything is okay. The problem is there are no jobs. ”
Due to heavy rain the roads have been washed away. So, we need assistance on the roads so that the roads can be managed. And also, water, we don’t have enough water,”
The ANC has maintained its majority in Limpopo after it emerged with 73 % in last year’s elections.
