GAUTENG – A 32-year-old man will appear at the Johannesburg magistrate’s court today facing a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. It is alleged that on 01 April 2025 at about 13:00 the police Crime Prevention members from Johannesburg Central were patrolling the area when they received a tipoff about a suspicious man walking along the street in the CBD. The police swiftly reacted to the identified street and came across the mentioned suspect. Upon searching him, the police recovered an AK 47 rifle loaded with a magazine with 26 live rounds inside his bag. The suspect was arrested. Police investigations are continuing. The Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Koena Moichela thanked the police for their vigilance and dedication. The Acting District Commissioner also thanked members of the community for the good working relationship with the police and encouraged them to keep on reporting criminal activities in their area by phoning their nearest police station or alternatively use the MySAPS App to provide tipoffs anonymously.
