Amapiano star Uncool MC steps into the spotlight with new single ‘Setla’

Uncool MC is stepping further into his own sound with his new single, “Setla,”

After years of bringing his energy to notable Amapiano records and stages, Uncool MC is stepping further into his own sound with his new single, “Setla,” released this past Friday.

Meaning “move your body” or “dance,” “Setla” marks a new chapter for Uncool MC and introduces his upcoming solo EP, which is set for release on 25 September 2026.

Born Thando Sibeko, the entertainer and recording artist from the east of Johannesburg originally started his career as a DJ.

He later transitioned into MCing before expanding into songwriting and recording, quickly becoming known for his energetic stage presence and ability to connect with audiences.

His journey has since seen him perform at major festivals and events across South Africa and internationally, establishing him as a recognisable voice within the Amapiano scene.

With a catalogue that has surpassed 140 million Spotify streams across his own releases and collaborations, Uncool MC continues to expand his reach while cementing his solo artistry.

The dance-driven track brings together a heavy-hitting Amapiano line-up, featuring DJ Maphorisa, Focalistic, Ntsako XVI, and Shaun 101.

Uncool MC has spent the past few years building his reputation as a premier MC and collaborator.

He has featured on major records including “Bula Nthweo” (with DJ Maphorisa, Vetkoek, and Mahoota), “Sela” (by Cyfred and DBN Gogo), and “oTsotsi” (by Kwenyama Brothers).

He has also graced massive stages, including Cotton Fest, Piano People, Afro Nation, and Fact Durban Rocks.

Now, with “Setla,” he is bringing that extensive experience into his own music.

“‘Setla’ carries a deeply personal meaning for me,” says Uncool MC.

“It’s a celebration of life, growth, and the journey that has brought me to this point in my career. The song is an invitation to let loose and enjoy the moment, while also celebrating how far I’ve come. The references to CÉ LA VI in Sandton speak to the themes of luxury and opulence within the track.”

More than just a dance record, “Setla” serves as a confident, celebratory, and unapologetically aspirational introduction to his upcoming EP.

With more than 1.4 million monthly Spotify listeners, Uncool MC has built a massive audience across Africa and international markets, setting a strong stage for the next phase of his career.
