Amakhosi prodigy ‘Obrigado’ sets sights on victory in Zambia
Kaizer Chiefs prodigy Mfundo Vilakazi has sent a clear message ahead of Amakhosi’s high-stakes CAF Confederation Cup clash against Red Arrows: nothing short of a victory will do.
The Soweto Giants go head-to-head with the Zambian champions in the first leg of their second preliminary round tie at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Saturday afternoon – kickoff is at 3pm.
Speaking ahead of the crucial encounter, the mercurial left-footer — affectionately known as ‘Obrigado’ — declared that Amakhosi are fully primed to deliver on foreign soil despite the challenging local conditions.
“Training was good. It’s very hot here, but we’ll manage. I think we are ready for tomorrow,” Vilakazi said on Friday.
The Levy Mwanawasa Stadium holds fond memories for the Chiefs starlet. Vilakazi featured on the same turf last season when Amakhosi claimed a memorable group-stage victory over Zesco United — a result he is determined to replicate against Red Arrows.
“Last time we played here we won, so I think we must do the same again,” Vilakazi stated emphatically.
Despite earning a well-deserved call-up to the South Africa National Under 20 squad, the maturing playmaker remains completely dialed in on the task at hand for Arthur Zwane’s side, brushing aside personal accolades to keep his full attention on continental success.
“I’m really happy about it, but for now I am totally focused on my club and what we need to do,” he explained.
While confident, Vilakazi demonstrated tactical maturity beyond his years, warning that the Glamour Boys cannot afford to take their Zambian opponents lightly following detailed video analysis.
“We saw some of them in our video session. They are a good team, and we won’t underestimate them,” Vilakazi concluded.
