11 December 2024 – The South African U17 Men’s National Team (Amajimbos) lost 1-2 to Zambia on Wednesday afternoon in the COSAFA Youth Championships semi-finals and in the process also failed to qualify for the 2025 CAF U17 Africa Cup of Nations.
Amajimbos took the lead in the second minute of the match when Simphiwe Mlondo netted in the goal after a great pass from Emile Witbooi.
The match was interrupted by several VAR reviews, which eventually earned Zambia a penalty in the 22nd minute. Nyirongo scored the equaliser from the spot while SA goalkeeper Lwandiso Radebe was booked by the referee.
Junior Chipolopolo took the lead in the 67th minute when Banda netted the winning goal to see Zambia progress to the COSAFA Youth Championships final and book a ticket to the 2025 CAF African Cup of Nations.
