The highlight of the British film calendar and a key indicator to the Oscars on 12 March, the BAFTA Film Awards, is in full swing at London’s Royal Festival Hall. The biggest moments of the night, hosted by South African-born Oscar winner Richard E Grant, will be streamed on the BAFTAs YouTube livestream.
BAFTAs: The front-runners
With 14 nods, German director Edward Berger’s All Quiet on the Western Front is the joint most-nominated foreign-language film in the BAFTA academy’s 76-year history.
It has tied with Ang Lee’s martial arts drama Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, co-starring Michelle Yeoh, which won the same number of nominations in 2001.
Yeoh is nominated for best actress this year as a worn-down laundromat owner who transforms into a high-kicking heroine, in the wildly inventive Everything Everywhere All At Once.
Yeoh’s kung-fu science-fiction film received 10 BAFTA nominations, as did the pitch-black Irish comedy The Banshees of Inisherin co-starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson.

Best of the BAFTAs red carpet
The star-studded BAFTAs red carpet is definitely one to remember. There were lots of all-black looks, as well as a fair few sheer gowns, and plenty of glitzy, embellished get-ups.

The Prince and Princess of Wales: William and Kate
The Prince and Princess of Wales caused quite the stir on the red carpet as they arrived at the BAFTAs. The prince has been president of BAFTA since 2010 and the royal couple will meet the category winners and EE Rising Star Award nominees after the ceremony.
William wore a double-breasted black velvet tuxedo, while Kate looked stunning in a reworked Alexander McQueen one-shoulder gown and statement black opera gloves. She completed the look with a pair of £17.99 (about R391) floral and rhinestone detail earrings from high street favourite Zara.
According to Hello Magazine, the thrifty princess first wore the Grecian-style gown for the 2019 BAFTAs, with floral detailing on the shoulder.
Florence Pugh
British actress and Wonder star Florence Pugh was a dream in a tangerine Nina Ricci creation by Harris Reed.
Colin Farrell
Irish star Colin Farrell, who has been nominated in the Leading Actor category at the BAFTAs for his role in the Banshees of Inisherin, was one of the stars wearing a blue ribbon in solidarity with refurgees
Angela Bassett
The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star stunned in a Pamella Roland gown with voluminous sleeves for some added Baftas red carpet drama. According to People, Bassett accessorised her look with Boucheron jewels, an exquisite Judith Leiber bag and Le Silla platform heels.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
Supermodel and long-time partner of The Transporter star Jason Statham, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, cut an elegant yet sexy figure on the red carpet. The 35-year-old mother of two flaunted her toned figure in a high-collared black bodysuit and a long black skirt with racy scalloped cut-outs.
Naomi Ackie
Nominated for the BAFTA EE Rising Star Award tonight, actress Naomi Ackie pulled off the peplum trend which dominated the recent New York Fashion Week.
Rege-Jean Page
