GAUTENG – On Thursday 27 February 2025, the police in Sedibeng District collaborated with various stakeholders to conduct Operation Shanela in Vanderbijlpark and Bophelong policing precincts. The successful operation was led by Major General Mukwevho, the District Commissioner of Sedibeng which resulted in the apprehension of 169 suspects for various offences. The first phase of the operation started with an overnight suspect tracing of wanted suspects by the detectives in the districts. The tracing resulted in the arrests of 129 wanted suspects for crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, rape, assault GBH amongst others. Various crime prevention activities were also conducted and resulted in the arrest of 18 undocumented persons, and two illegal liquor outlets were closed. During the tour of the Operation, Sedibeng District Commissioner, Major General Mukwevho also engaged with the community of extension 17 in Bophelong whereby the community was being sensitised about the importance of exercising their rights especially when it comes to reporting corrupt members. The Sedibeng District Commissioner Major General Mukwevho, emphasised the imperative of working together and also applauded the good work shown by the members. Ends
