The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated his enchantment to the Chiefs, Metropolitan, Municipal and Chief Executives (MMDCE’s) within the nation to stand up and take up lead roles within the struggle towards illegal mining (galamsey).

According to the President, the Chiefs, who’re custodians of lands have an obligation to defend the lands entrusted of their care and that becoming a member of forces with authorities to struggle illegal mining is an obligation they owed their communities and the nation.

Addressing the standard authorities on the National House of Chiefs in Kumasi on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, President Akufo-Addo maintained that the battle towards illegal mining can solely be received if there’s a nearer and efficient collaboration between the federal government, conventional authorities and related stakeholders.

He expressed the openness and transparency of his authorities to mining however clarified that mining have to be carried out with the scope of the nation’s legal guidelines in addition to accountable and sustainable means.

For President Akufo-Addo, the battle to defend the nation’s waterbodies requires an all-hands on deck method that have to be devoid of politics and private curiosity.

He bemoaned the political colorization of the struggle towards galamsey and admonished politicians to rise above such partisanship and egocentric positive factors.

He contended that his authorities will stay resolute in its dedication to make sure the sustainable use of the nation’s wealthy mineral assets.

“We have tried many initiatives including the community mining scheme and the establishment of the new legal regime for dealing with the perpetrators of this phenomenon which has imposed severe sanctions on both Ghanaians and foreigners raging from 15-25years jail term of illegal mining activities,” he added.

“The progress of our country depends on all of us; all citizens of Ghana; all fellow Ghanaians coming together to defeat this existential threat to our future,” he apleaded.

“No one seeks to exploit the fight against galamsey for political gains as we saw in the last election. The progress of our country depends on all of us, all citizens of Ghana, all fellow Ghanaians, pulling together to defeat this existential threat to our future,” the President famous.

“I ask all of you to join hands with me in the fight against illegal mining in order to bring to an end the devastation of our lands and the pollution of our water bodies.”

The President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II expressed fear that galamsey actions are a menace to the survival of Ghanaians and that any motion taken in the direction of its curbing have to be embraced by all.

He noticed that illegal mining actions have affected cocoa business in addition to Ghana’s income technology and employment goal and urged that individuals discovered to be participating in illegal mining actions be handled in accordance to the legislation.

He recommended President Akufo-Addo for his private devotion to the struggle to defend assets meant for future generations and promised that the standard authorities provide their utmost help to the federal government.

The President later met with MMDCE’s and Regional Ministers in llegal mining endemic areas whiles charging them to work collectively actively and intently with Central authorities to reverse the phenomenonal of Galamsey.

Government he mentioned, has lots to do with popularity including that there’s a political value to the galamsey struggle however “ a cost we should be prepared to pay in the interest of Ghana”.

The President burdened that “you are my representative at the local level and it cannot be that government fighting the menace and you are found complicit “ adding that “I will am not in the position to protect anyone who is found in such act against who evidence has been established to be involved in the Galamsey”.

Let us work collectively to restore our water our bodies, panorama, forest reserve to allow us break the 8”, he concluded.
