QUMBU – A swift reaction by Qumbu detectives backed up by Stock Theft Unit members to the whereabouts of wanted suspects in connection with a murder of a 55-year-old male victim who was gunned down in his shop at Debeza locality – Qumbu ( between Saturday, 21 December 2024 and Sunday, 22 December 2024 led to the arrest of two male suspects aged 19 and 24 both from the same locality. Community members became suspicious when the shop was not opened the whole day, and on their investigation, they found the deceased lying dead in a pool of blood inside the shop. Police were summoned and recovered AK 47 empty cartridges next to the deceased’ body. An AK 47 automatic rifle without ammunition assumed to be the murder weapon was recovered by police during the arrest of the suspects and will be sent for ballistic testing to check if its directly linked to the murder and also other committed crimes. The motive for the gruesome murder of the deceased forms part of the ongoing investigation, and the duo will appear in the Qumbu magistrate court on a murder charge on Friday, 27 December 2024. OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana commended the detectives for their dedication in trying to speedily solve the murder case and also recovering the firearm which might had to be used in the commission of other serious criminal offences.
