AFRIKA MAYIBUYE CONGRATULATES COSATU ON 15TH NATIONAL CONGRESS
GAUTENG: Afrika Mayibuye Movement has congratulated the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) on the successful conclusion of its 15th National Congress, welcoming its commitments to insourcing, the abolition of tenders and the protection of workers’ rights.
In a statement, the movement said a strong and united labour movement was essential to addressing unemployment, poverty and inequality. It argued that insourcing would help rebuild state capacity, end the exploitation of outsourced workers and ensure public institutions had the skills and resources needed to deliver services.
Mayibuye also welcomed COSATU’s political resolutions on advancing the national democratic revolution towards socialism, promoting working-class unity and making political support conditional on a clear programme for workers.
The movement congratulated the newly elected leadership, headed by president Mike Shingange and general secretary Zingiswa Losi. It further praised progress towards gender equality, noting that women occupied four of the six national leadership positions.
Mayibuye said it viewed COSATU and other progressive workers’ organisations as potential strategic partners in the pursuit of economic justice and called for practical cooperation to improve the lives of workers and communities.
The movement urged the new leadership to translate its resolutions into tangible gains for workers.
