EASTERN CAPE – Sinokolo Ndanga (26) appeared before New Brighton Magistrate’s court on 6 November 2024 facing allegations of police murder. Ndanga was apprehended at Fort Beaufort by the Hawks Gqeberha based Serious Organised Crime Investigation whilst detained for another matter on 5 November 2024 and he was a prisoner in transit to Gqeberha to face his allegations. His co-accused Akhona Zamxaka (28) was arrest by the Hawks during the early hours of 15 October 2024 where he appeared before New Brighton Magistrates court on 17 October 2024 and was remanded in custody ever since. Their arrest came after police Constable Lwando Msezeni (26) was brutally murdered on 21 September 2024 at approximately 23:15 at night. It is alleged that a police officer who was stationed at Kwazakhele South African Police Service was walking with his partner at Somfula Street Kwazakhele in Gqeberha. During the time, the couple was reportedly coming from the local tavern where they were followed by two (2) unknown suspects wearing balaclavas. Subsequently, while the pair was on the aforesaid street was allegedly confronted by the suspects and the officer was stabbed at his neck, his cell phone taken then the suspect fled the scene on foot. The police member succumbed to the stab wound and was declared deceased on the scene. A police murder case was handed over to the Hawks for intensive investigation. Thorough investigation by the Hawks few weeks down the line, led to the arrest of the suspect at Fort Beaufort on 5 November 2024. Ndanga appeared before New Brighton Magistrates court on 6 November 2024 and the matter was remanded to 13 November 2024 to join his co-accused as well as for formal bail application. He is remanded in custody.
The Provincial Head of the Hawks Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya welcomed the arrest and applauded the investigating team for the good work.
