Media Statement POTCHEFSTROOM – The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng, welcomes the arrest of a 36-year-old alleged serial rapist. The accused was arrested in Boitekong on Monday, 10 March 2025, during an intelligence led operation after the accused’s vehicle was spotted and stopped by Tactical Response Team (TRT) and Public Order Police (POP) members. On searching the car, the members found a replica firearm as well as handbags and cell phones, which were later confirmed to be those of the victims. Further investigations into the matter by Rustenburg Detectives, and the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, positively linked the accused to five rape and nine of armed robbery cases. The crimes were allegedly committed in the policing precincts of Rustenburg, Boitekong, and Phokeng between January and March 2025. In committing the offences, the accused would offer lifts to victims and eventually drive to secluded areas, then threaten the victims with a firearm, rob them of their personal belongings and rape them. The accused appeared in the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 12 March 2025. He was remanded in custody until his next appearance on Monday, 17 March 2025, for legal representation and a bail application. He is also facing a charge of possession of suspected stolen goods. Moreover, he is yet to be charged on three other separate charges of rape. Major General Asaneng commended the multidisciplinary team members for their dedication and cooperation in ensuring that the alleged perpetrator is brought to book to face the wrath of the law. Ends
