Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – The Bellville Magistrate’s Court have on 26 February 2025 convicted and sentenced Gideon Jacobus Niewoudt (57) for contravention of Tax Administration Act, Act 28 of 2011. Niewoudt who was the sole proprietor of Nuwevlei Farm in Clanwilliam allegedly failed to submit income tax returns for 2022 and Valued Added Tax (VAT) 201 returns for periods 2022 and 2023. The matter was referred to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation for probing and the accused was ultimately charged with eight counts relating to contravention of the Tax Administration Act, Act 28 of 2011. The accused was found guilty on all counts and was sentenced to R2 000.00 per count, which amounted to R16 000. 00 or spend three months in prison. Ends
