KWAZULU-NATAL – On Friday, 30 August 2024, Durban Magistrates Court sentenced Sebenzile Siphelele Odera (44) on two (2) counts of Possession of drugs. On 23 March 2023, Hawks members from Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation were called out to the crime scene, that was suspected to be a clandestine laboratory manufacturing of crystal methamphetamine and methcathinone. Members proceeded to the said address. During the search, they found various parcels alleged to be crystal meth and methcathinone on the kitchen counter. They also found an unknown powder suspected to be bulking agents used in the manufacturing process. Furthermore, they discovered various mixing vessels and heating elements used in the manufacturing of crystal methamphetamine and methcathinone. The accused was immediately placed under arrest and charged with possession of drugs. She appeared in court several times, until she pleaded guilty and sentenced on Friday 30 August 2024. The accused was sentenced to seven (7) years imprisonment, which is wholly suspended for five (5) years. Additionally, she was sentenced to three (3) years of correctional supervision. She was further instructed to pay R10 000-00 to the Assert Forfeiture Unit and undergo house arrest and community service. The KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, Major General (Dr) Lesetja Senona welcomed the sentence and applauded the investigating team for the good work. Ends
