Media Statement FREE STATE – The Ladybrand Family, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit together with National Prosecuting Authority successfully convicted, accused person Thabiso Lilele (34) of Lesotho to life imprisonment for rape of 13-year-old girl from Manyatseng near Ladybrand. On 28 February 2023 at 13:00, the aunt was home with her 13-year-old niece who was not feeling well and it was discovered that she is pregnant. She was asked who was responsible but kept on saying the person told her to keep quiet or he would kill her. At a later stage, she reported that Thabiso Lilele raped her in December 2022 without consent when her mother was hospitalised. The accused was from Lesotho, and he was traced at Riverside near Maseru Bridge. A case of rape was opened and investigated by Detective Sergeant Mabatho Siqwele of Ladybrand FCS, and she successfully opposed bail.
On 09 October 2024, the accused was found guilty of rape at Ladybrand Regional Court and sentenced to life imprisonment, Unfit to possess fire-arm. The matter was heard before Magistrate Deon Mohala and prosecuted by Mrs Marie Yzel.
