Media Statement FREE STATE – On 11 June 2024, Isabel Segwane Hans (55) was sentenced by the Bloemfontein Commercial Crimes Court after pleading guilty to multiple counts of corruption, fraud, forgery and uttering. During 2019, the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation reacted to information about acts of fraud, corruption, forgery, and uttering committed by Administration Clerks at Lengau Testing Centre in Bloemfontein. The clerks were reintroducing scrapped vehicles on the E-Natis system without following the correct procedures. They could also arrange unlawful roadworthy certificates for such vehicles. Hans was amongst the suspects arrested during a Hawks operation on 22 October 2020. The Bloemfontein Commercial Crimes Court sentenced Hans for four counts of corruption to six years imprisonment which is wholly suspended for five years on condition that the accused is not convicted of the same offence during the period of suspension. Twelve counts of fraud, forgery, and uttering were taken together for the purpose of the sentence and Hans was given a fine of R90 000 or three years imprisonment of which R60 000 is suspended for five years. The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in the Free State, Major General Mogadi Bokaba has applauded the investigating officer for an outstanding job that led to the conviction of the accused.
