Abongile Tom handed MTN8 final between Pirates and Sundowns
Renowned South African referee Abongile Tom has been appointed to take charge of the highly anticipated MTN8 final between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.
Tom, one of Africa’s representatives at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, has established himself as one of the leading referees in the PSL.
He now faces the huge responsibility of ensuring a fair contest when two of South Africa’s biggest clubs go head-to-head at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
The blockbuster final kicks off at 6pm on Saturday, with Pirates chasing another MTN8 triumph while Sundowns look to stop their rivals from adding to their dominance in the competition.
Tom will be assisted by Romario Phiri and Sergio Olyn, while Nonjabulo Dladla has been appointed as the fourth official.
Former top-level referee Jerome Damon will serve as the match commissioner.
With so much at stake, Tom will be under the spotlight as he takes charge of one of the biggest fixtures on the South African football calendar.
