Ouaddou: Sebelebele is not a robot — Pirates need another right-back
Abdeslam Ouaddou has a problem at Orlando Pirates, and he is not hiding it. While he has a big squad, there is one position that is giving him sleepless nights.
That is the right back position. Kamogelo Sebelebele is now the only specialist in that position. Thabiso Lebitso, Bandile Shandu and Siyabonga Ndlozi are gone. Tshepo Mashiloane was sent away on loan to Sekhukhune United.
Deano van Rooyen walked out and joined Mamelodi Sundowns as a free agent. Ouaddou says one man cannot carry a title chase.
“It’s a big concern, [having one right-back], even Sebelebele. I love him, but I cannot push him to 60 games. It’s difficult; he’s not a robot.”
He compared the rest of his options to a spare tyre. “I can find solutions sometimes, some emergency wheel, like when your car is stuck but the emergency wheel is not going to work all the time, especially with how we want to play; we want to play attacking football using the wide channels.
“We can use a central defender for one or two games, but in the important games you will definitely need somebody who is a specialist in that position.
“I can use [Gamphani] Lungu, but he’s coming back from an injury and the solutions start to be limited, but we will see.”
With the transfer window still open, Pirates are expected to bring in at least another right back to compete with Sebelebele.
