Authorities in the Eastern Cape are searching for the mother of a baby boy who was found abandoned in a field in Cala. The child, believed to be around four weeks old, was discovered on Saturday, 28 June 2025, and was fortunately still alive when police arrived at the scene.
The baby was immediately taken to a hospital for medical evaluation. A case of child neglect has been opened, and the matter is now being handled by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses unit.
Police are urging anyone with information that could help identify or locate the mother to come forward. Members of the public can contact the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Sogiba, or report tips anonymously through Crime Stop.
