Media Statement POLOKWANE – The South African Police Service in Limpopo has arrested 38 undocumented foreign nationals during Multidisciplinary Operation Vala Umgodi, which took place between 17 and 18 January 2025. The arrests were made across all five districts of Limpopo, during coordinated disruptive operations at various mining sites. The suspects, aged between 18 and 50, were found to be in contravention of the Immigration Act. They were arrested and will face charges before different Magistrate’s Courts in the province. The operation, aimed at addressing illegal activities within the mining sector and ensuring compliance with South African immigration laws, continues to reinforce the SAPS commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the country’s borders.
The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the team for their efforts in curbing illegal immigration and protecting the local communities from the negative impacts of unlawful activities in the mining industry.
