POLOKWANE – A total number of 76 illegal immigrants were amongst 328 suspects arrested across the Limpopo Province for various offences during the ongoing Operation Shanela conducted from Monday 24 February 2025 until Sunday 02 March 2025.
The operations were jointly executed with external law enforcement agencies from:

Department of Home Affairs, Traffic Police, Community Policing Forum (CPF), Youth Desk and Community Safety structures.
These operations were conducted through stop and searches, tracing of wanted suspects, high visibility patrols, roadblocks and vehicle checkpoints.
During the operations, significant arrests were effected as follows:
-
03 robbery business,
-
04 robbery residential,
-
03 murder,
-
03 attempted Murder,
-
03 rape,
-
59 assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm (GBH),
-
48 assault common,
-
03 burglary business premises,
-
10 burglary residential,
-
16 malicious damage to property,
-
09 driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs,
-
11 illicit mining.
-
The following items were recovered and confiscated during the operations:
-
78,45l litres of alcoholic beverages,
-
51 ammunition,
-
R380,00 in cash,
-
O2 cellphones,
-
13234 counterfeit goods,
-
06 dangerous weapons,
-
0,006 grams of dagga,
-
0,03 grams of nyaope,
-
02 firearms,
-
32800 packets of illicit cigarettes,
-
01 vehicle part and
-
01 vehicle trailer.
Some of the arrested suspects have already started to appear before their local Magistrate courts.
“I would like to caution the would-be criminals that, the police will leave no stone unturned to ensure safety and security of Limpopo citizens,” said Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
