ODENDAALSRUS – Members of the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit received information from residents about suspects terrorizing residents by robbing them of their cellphones at gunpoint at night in K6 section of Kutloanong. The information was operationalised on 08 August 2024 at about 15:30. While tracing the suspects, members found three suspects, aged 20, 27 and 31, busy processing gold-bearing material. Three plastic bags containing gold bearing material and one cold drink cap with gold bearing material were seized. Then members proceeded with the initial information and two suspects were found with two cellphones robbed from different victims, a 9mm pistol with a serial number still visible and one magazine. The suspects, aged 22 and 24, were arrested for possession of suspected stolen cellphones, possession of an unlicensed firearm and three counts of armed robbery. They have been linked to three cases of robbery registered in August 2024, during which a firearm was used. The suspects will appear in the Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court.
