WELKOM – Members of the Welkom K9 Unit were busy with visible policing, stop and search in Doorn suburb in Welkom when they noticed a suspicious man on 6 April 2024 at about 00:15. He was searched and eleven pillar-box electrical fuses, one screwdriver, and one padlock were found inside the bag he was carrying. He could not give police officers documents to be in possession of the items. He was arrested for possession of suspected stolen items.
A preliminary investigation reveals that a pillar-box belonging to Matjhabeng Municipality in Zomba Street was broken open and fuses were stolen, thus causing blackouts in several houses in the vicinity. A 34-year-old man was arrested by Sergeant Sesing Rakoata and Warrant Officer David Scott of Welkom K9 Unit and will appear on 8 April 2024 in the Welkom Magistrate Court.
