Media Statement POLOKWANE – A 26-year-old male suspect who was arrested by Tzaneen police for alleged rape of an 18-year-old woman at Kubyana village in the early hours of Saturday, 23 November 2024 at about 01:00 is expected to appear before Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court soon. It is alleged that the victim was with her boyfriend at the nearest tavern when the suspect, who is believed to be her ex-boyfriend, approached them with a knife and threatened to stab the boyfriend and chased him away. Afterward, the suspect verbally and physically assaulted the victim until she passed out. He allegedly took her to the nearest bushes and raped her. Apparently after the ordeal, the suspect instructed the victim to do other unthinkable things that are still subject to investigation to hide evidence. The suspect took the victim to his home and continued raping her. In the morning, he accompanied her home. The victim, when she arrived home reported the ordeal to her mother, who later reported the incident to the police. A rape case was opened for investigation and the docket was transferred to Tzaneen FCS Unit The suspect was traced and arrested on Saturday, 23 November 2024 during the day on charges of rape. The suspect will appear before Ga-Kgapane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 25 November 2024, facing charges of rape. Police investigations are still continuing. Ends
