Media Statement POLOKWANE – An operation comprising of SAPS Provincial Vehicle Crime Investigation Units (VCIU), Waterberg District VCIU Modimolle and Mahwelereng supported by insurance companies, has on Wednesday 12 March 2025, resulted in the recovery of four suspected stolen motor vehicles. The vehicles were all seized for further investigations. The operation focused on visits to panel beaters, taxi ranks, car dealers through roadblocks, vehicle checkpoints, in host spot areas in the Mahwelereng policing precinct to trace the suspicious vehicles. The team members proceeded to Ga-Madiba in Mahwelereng policing area at a towing service where a Volkswagen Polo TSI, silver in colour, with Gauteng registration number plates, was found to be stolen Mahwelereng. The operation proceeded to a local scrap-yard, where a motor vehicle was found to have been cloned in Gauteng province. The driver of Toyota Hilux bakkie was stopped and searched along Zebediela road. The VCIU searched and inspected the vehicle, and it was found that the vehicle identification did not match with license disc. The vehicle was immediately removed from the road. A Volkswagen Polo with Mpumalanga number plates was traced at a scrap yard. Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle is still travelling in Johannesburg, Gauteng Province. Also, in Polokwane, a well-known car dealership, a Volkswagen Polo with Limpopo province registration number, was reported stolen in Jane Furse last May 2024. The vehicle was also seized. The Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the seizure of the vehicles pending the arrests. “I would like to applaud this joint operation which stamped the authority of the State. If you continue to do unlawful acts, the long arm of the law will reach you” says Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe. Ends
