A 39-year-old female suspect was apprehended while at a retail store for attempted murder of a 40-year-old female victim at Namakgale
The victim was on her way to work when she was contacted through a cellphone by her colleague, who informed her that there was a woman looking for her at the store.
According to South Police Service (SAPS) report they say upon arrival, the victim went straight to the storeroom and took out the items to be sold, and started packing them on the shelves.
“While busy packing, a 39-year-old female suspect approached her, and they exchanged greetings. Afterward, the suspect unexpectedly started stabbing the victim repeatedly with a knife, and she sustained several stab wounds on the body.
The security personnel at the store managed to overpower the female suspect and rescue the victim,”they said.
SAPS said following the incident, police and members of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were summoned at the scene.
“The victim was transported to a local hospital to receive medical treatment and the 39-year-old woman was nabbed at the retail store for attempted murder and a sharp object utilized during the commission of the crime was also seized during the arrest.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect went to the retail store with the intention to harm the victim. On arrival, she pretended to be loading groceries in the trolley that included a set of knives, and she prepared one to stab the 40-year-old female victim before meeting her,” they said.
They further said that the motive behind the incident is unknown at this stage.
