GIYANI: A 73-year-old man is expected to make his first appearance before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 15 October, in connection with the alleged murder of his 35-year-old wife at Nkuri-Tomu village.

The suspect was arrested at the scene following a shooting incident reported to police at approximately 23:00 on Tuesday, 13 October 2026.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo, officers were conducting patrols when they received information about the shooting and rushed to the scene.

Upon arrival, police were reportedly directed to the house by the victim’s brother-in-law, where they found the woman lying in a pool of blood in the sitting room. She had allegedly sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head and upper body.

Emergency Medical Services personnel were summoned but declared her dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim was allegedly shot and killed by her husband. Police also discovered a steel axe and ammunition next to the body, while a firearm suspected to have been used in the killing was seized from the bedroom during the suspect’s arrest.

The motive for the alleged murder remains unknown, although police have not ruled out domestic violence.

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers has condemned the killing, reiterating the police’s commitment to combating gender-based violence and femicide.

Police investigations are continuing.
