Media Statement POLOKWANE – Lebowakgomo Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit arrested a 62-year-old African male suspect (father) in connection with a rape of his 20-year-old biological daughter on Saturday, 11 May 2024. The suspect, who is on parole for a rape case, was arrested at his residence in Lebowakgomo Zone S Phase 3 on Tuesday, 14 May 2024 and is expected to appear before court on Thursday 16 May 2024. According to the report, on Saturday 11 May 2024, the victim was at home asleep when her father entered her bedroom naked, threatened her, and raped her. Victim reported the incident to the stepmother, and on Monday 13 May 2024, the victim reported the matter to the police. Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit was activated and tasked with investigations. On Tuesday 14 May 2024, the victim was taken to the nearest hospital for medical examination. The medical experts confirmed that the victim was indeed raped. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was out on parole after he was incarcerated on unrelated case in Lebowakgomo. The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, condemned the incident, and said “Parents are meant to love and protect their children, not to harm them.” She further said, “We hope that justice will prevail and the suspect will be permanently removed from the community,” remarked General Hadebe. The suspect will appear before Thabamoopo district court on Thursday 16 May 2024 on charges of rape.
