POLOKWANE – The Provincial Commissioner of South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the life imprisonment sentences handed down by Thabazimbi Regional Court to 43-year-old man who raped his niece aged 11 during December 2020 at Snymanslaagte Rooibok kraal in Cumberland policing area. During court trial, it was found that on 11 December 2020 at around 14:30, the accused (43) called his niece to his bedroom. When she entered, he immediately locked the door and, then raped the young girl He then released her afterwards. The victim’s grandmother noticed blood stains on her underwear while she was bathing her. She questioned her, and the victm informed grandmother about the ordeal. The victim’s mother was also notified when she returned home, and a case of rape was registered. The docket was transferred to Thabazimbi Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, and was assigned to Sergeant Mohlatlego Modubi for further investigations. Following thorough investigations, the suspect was arrested. On Tuesday, 30 April 2024, the accused found guilty on rape charge and was sentenced to life imprisonment .
