Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Burgersfort Regional Court has on Friday 25 October 2024, sentenced a 32-year-old foreign female accused for child abuse and assault GBH to five years’ imprisonment which is wholly suspended for five years’. The accused was further sentenced to undergo three years5’ of Correctional supervision. The court heard that during the month October 2023, a Zimbabwean national abused and assaulted her daughter, aged 10 and son aged seven, at their residence in Mochining Section, Riba Cross under Tubatse policing area. The teacher of the victims informed the school Principal about the incident who immediately alerted the Social Workers for intervention. The incident was reported to the local police and the accused was arrested on 14 October 2023 and later granted bail. Constable Julian Ramatsobane Mphahlele, attached to Burgersfort Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, was assigned to investigate the matter and managed to ensure that the accused is convicted for child abuse and assault of minor children. The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe applauded the court verdict and cautioned the would-be abusers that they would face the full might of the law. Ends
