Media Statement POLOKWANE – A 31-year-old foreign national was apprehended on Thursday, 27 February 2025 by the members of Lebowakgomo police during crime prevention duties and monitoring of State of the Province Address (SOPA) by the Premier of Limpopo, Doctor Phophi Ramathuba. Police spotted a suspicious silver Grey Toyota Bakkie with Gauteng registration number traveling along the D4040 public road at Ga-Chuene village. Police managed to stop the bakkie next to a filling station driven by a 31-year-old foreign national who granted permission to search it. During the search, police found it fully loaded with 20x Master boxes containing Illicit cigarettes of Remington Gold brand with an estimated street value of R250 000-00. The suspect was immediately arrested on the spot after he failed to provide a satisfactory response about the origin and destination of the cigarettes. During the arrest, illicit cigarettes and the Grey Toyota Bakkie utilized in the commission of the crime was also confiscated. The suspect is due to appear at Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court on Friday 28 February 2025 facing a charge of possession of illicit cigarettes. Police investigations are continuing. Ends
