Media Statement POLOKWANE – A 26-year-old male is expected to appear before the Giyani Magistrate court on Monday 06 January 2025 in connection with a rape charge of a 40-year-old female victim at Skhimini village. On Wednesday 01 January 2025 at about 18:00, a 40-year-old victim was walking at the bushes to her residence when she was approached by a known male suspect. The suspect unexpectedly started hugging her and demanded to have sex with her but she refused. She was assaulted and pushed to the ground and suddenly raped by a 26-year-old suspect who accompanied the victim to her home following the rape ordeal. The victim managed to inform her family and a rape case was reported the same day at Giyani police station. The Mopani District Tracking Team were activated in tracking the suspect who was on the run and subsequently apprehended while at Skhimini village on Friday 03 January 2025 at about 11:30. Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has praised the immediate nabbing of a male suspect within a short space of time and at least justice will prevail for the victim.
