From Naturena to Dar es Salaam via Limpopo: Kaze’s latest leap
In just three months, Cedric Kaze has been with three clubs as head coach. This comes as the Burundi born coach has landed a job in Tanzania.
Kagera Sugar have appointed the Burundian as their new boss, adding another chapter to a career that has already touched Soweto, Limpopo and Dar es Salaam.
Kaze first made his name alongside Nasreddine Nabi at Young Africans. Together they built a winning machine at Yanga.
They collected domestic silverware and helped drive the club to the 2023 CAF Confederation Cup final.
When Nabi later landed at Kaizer Chiefs, he called his “brother” Kaze to Naturena.
Kaze arrived mid-2024/25 as assistant after Fernando Da Cruz left. When Nabi was removed, Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef were elevated to co-coaches.
They steered Amakhosi to third in the Premiership, CAF Confederation Cup football, and were part of the setup that ended Chiefs’ decade-long trophy drought with the 2025 Nedbank Cup.
Chiefs still let both contracts expire in June 2026. Sekhukhune United moved next.
Babina Noko made him head coach for 2026/27, replacing Eric Tinkler and handing him the keys to a rebuild.
But that stint was short-lived. Now Kaze is back in Tanzania — this time as the main man at Kagera Sugar.
The itinerary is familiar. The job title is bigger. The test is whether the co-coach who learned under Nabi can now win on his own.
In Tanzania, he joins fellow former Betway Premiership coaches in Steve Barker and Manqoba Mngqithi.
Barker is with Simba SC since December last year, while Mngqithi joined Young Africans before the start of this season.
