Prominent South African media personality Dineo Ranaka has unleashed a scathing public attack on MacGyver “MacG” Mukwevho and Sol Phenduka, the hosts of the highly popular digital platform Podcast and Chill.
The fierce condemnation follows recent insensitive jokes made by the podcasting duo regarding Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, a runner who tragically went missing amid a terrifying wave of serial killings targeting women in Ekurhuleni.
The lighthearted banter concerning active missing-persons cases and national femicide trauma immediately triggered intense public anger across social media networks.
Taking to Instagram, Ranaka did not mince her words. Tagging the co-hosts and the official podcast network handle, she explicitly called them out for dehumanizing an orphaned child and a vulnerable family left in agony.
She accused the pair of relying on cheap “shock humour” to generate digital metrics at the expense of human suffering.
“A child was vulnerable and in a state of panic, her mother was missing and you felt yes let’s make this shock humour???????” Ranaka fired, noting that the content directly normalizes the degradation of women and grieving families.Ranaka’s outrage extended to previous high-profile controversies that have plagued the show, pointing to a historical pattern of misogyny.
“So you got tired of mocking our wombs and vaginas huh? Those jokes don’t work anymore huh! Now you’re mocking our corpses and orphaned children???” she added, branding the platform as “absolute bottom of the barrel filth.”
Although Sol Phenduka subsequently released a public apology acknowledging that the remarks were uncalled for and highly insensitive, Ranaka fiercely rejected the gesture.
She asserted that the apology was entirely hollow and purely calculated for brand damage control.
“And NO!!!!! YOUR APOLOGY IS USELESS!!!! Had you received no backlash YOU WOULD NOT have apologised,” Ranaka concluded, mirroring a growing public sentiment that podcasters must be held structurally accountable rather than relying on reactive apologies once corporate partnerships are threatened.
