Hawks Resurface Decade-Old Examination Fraud Case in Limpopo
LIMPOPO: Three suspects allegedly linked to the illegal distribution and sale of an examination paper have been served with court summonses following a decade-long fraud investigation in the province.
The breakthrough was secured by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team in Musina, which traced the suspects to Tshilamba, Khubvi and Thohoyandou.
The investigation dates back to November 2015, when six students allegedly gained unlawful access to an examination paper before the scheduled examination.
According to the allegations, the students shared the examination paper among themselves before selling copies to other students for approximately R250 each.
The Hawks continued investigating the matter and tracing the suspects despite the passage of nearly 11 years.
The three suspects, aged between 30 and 33, were recently located and served with J175 summonses. They are facing charges of fraud and are expected to appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrates’ Court on 5 October 2026.
The investigation into the remaining suspects is ongoing.
Limpopo Hawks Provincial Head, Major General (Adv.) Gopz Govender, welcomed the development and commended the investigation team for its persistence in pursuing the case.
“The passage of time does not erase accountability. This case demonstrates that the Hawks remain committed to following the evidence and ensuring that allegations of fraud are properly investigated and placed before the courts,” said Govender.
