SAPS Form Task Team After Four Women’s Bodies Found In Kempton Park
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has established a multidisciplinary task team to investigate the deaths of four women whose bodies were discovered in and around Rhodesfield, Kempton Park, over about two months.
The decision follows what detectives described as concerning similarities between the cases, including the locations where the bodies were found and visible bruising. SAPS has, however, stressed that it has not confirmed that the deaths are linked or that a serial killer is responsible.
Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane directed Gauteng police to establish the task team, which will be led by Gauteng Deputy Provincial Commissioner Major General Mbuso Khumalo. The team includes detectives from the Murder and Robbery Unit, the Investigative Psychology Unit, and other specialised disciplines.
The latest body was discovered in Rhodesfield on Saturday evening, 12 September. The discovery came as police were also searching for 38-year-old Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, who disappeared after going for a run in the area earlier in the week. Police have not confirmed the identity of the latest body.
SAPS has urged women in Kempton Park, particularly Rhodesfield, to avoid walking or exercising alone in isolated areas and, where possible, to travel or exercise in groups.
