Leaner is no upgrade on error-prone Petersen, claims podcaster
Fernando Da Cruz is not stubborn. He is stuck. That is the claim from football gossip voice Nadim Lukhele after Brandon Petersen’s latest blunder.
Petersen fumbled from a corner that handed Polokwane City a 1-1 draw and cost Kaizer Chiefs two points. Giovanni Philander whipped it in. Petersen bundled it in. Amakhosi fans have heard enough.
The call from the stands is simple: drop him. Give Renaldo Leaner a chance. But Lukhele says the dressing room does not agree.
“There is talk that the coach is naive and narrow minded for playing Brandon Petersen. The guy is off form, and you can see that there is something bothering him,” Lukhele said in a video now doing the rounds on social media.
Then came the sting. “But I have heard from one of the players inside Chiefs that it is not like Leaner is better. He says even at training, he unwittingly passes to opponents.
“That was a confidential conversation obviously so I cannot divulge his name. He says they are aware that Petersen is costing them but he does not feel Leaner is a capable replacement.
“That is what I heard. I am not going to mention him because would be victimised and end up released like Thabo Cele…”
If the whisper is true, Da Cruz is choosing the devil he knows. Petersen is leaking goals. Leaner, according to this unnamed teammate, is leaking the ball in training.
Chiefs needed a goalkeeper solution. Lukhele’s version is that they still do not have one.
