Police have warned women around Rhodesfield to exercise extreme caution after a fourth body was discovered on Saturday evening. A specialised task team is now examining the deaths.

The bodies of four women have been found in the Kempton Park area over approximately two months, prompting an urgent public warning from the South African Police Service and the appointment of a specialised investigative team.

The latest body was discovered on Saturday evening, 12 September. According to SAPS, the women were found partially clothed, with visible bruising, and the discovery sites are in the same vicinity around Rhodesfield.

Those similarities have raised serious questions for detectives. Police have not established that the deaths are linked, nor have they confirmed that a serial killer is involved. The circumstances and causes of the deaths remain under investigation.

Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane has directed Gauteng police to establish a multidisciplinary task team. It will include members of the Murder and Robbery Unit and the Investigative Psychology Unit, along with other specialists needed to examine the cases.

The team will be led by Gauteng Deputy Provincial Commissioner Major General Mbuso Khumalo, who has been instructed to pursue all investigative avenues.

SAPS has urged women in and around Kempton Park, particularly Rhodesfield, to avoid secluded areas and, where possible, to walk, run or travel in groups. The warning follows the latest discovery; it does not amount to a police finding that one person is responsible for all four deaths.

Police are appealing to residents, motorists and security personnel who may have seen suspicious activity in Rhodesfield or surrounding areas to come forward.
