SAPS probes deaths of four women in Kempton Park
KEMPTON PARK: South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched a multidisciplinary investigation following the discovery of the bodies of four women in the Kempton Park area over a period of approximately two months.
The latest body was discovered on Saturday evening in the Rhodesfield area.
Police say preliminary information has revealed similarities in the circumstances surrounding the deaths, with the women reportedly found partially undressed and with visible bruising.
The bodies were also discovered in the same general vicinity.
Although SAPS has not confirmed that the deaths are linked to a serial killer, the similarities have raised concerns and prompted police to intensify their investigations.
The Acting National Commissioner of SAPS, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has directed the Gauteng Provincial Commissioner to establish a dedicated multidisciplinary task team to investigate the cases and determine whether there is a connection between the incidents.
The task team will comprise detectives from specialised units, including the Murder and Robbery Unit and the Investigative Psychology Unit, together with other relevant investigative disciplines.
Gauteng Deputy Provincial Commissioner Major General Mbuso Khumalo will lead the task team and has been tasked with ensuring that all possible investigative leads are followed to establish who is responsible for the deaths.
SAPS has urged women in and around Kempton Park, particularly Rhodesfield, to exercise extreme caution.
Women have been advised against walking or running alone, especially in isolated areas, and are encouraged to avoid secluded locations and remain vigilant.
Police have further advised women to travel or exercise in groups whenever possible.
SAPS has appealed to residents, motorists, security personnel and other members of the community who may have witnessed suspicious activity in Rhodesfield and surrounding areas to come forward.
Police said the matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness and that specialised resources have been mobilised to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths and bring those responsible to justice.
