Jordaan re-elected SAFA president, beats Zungu 157–82
Danny Jordaan has been re-elected president of the South African Football Association, defeating AmaZulu chairman Sandile Zungu at Saturday’s elective congress.
Jordaan won 157 votes to Zungu’s 82 and will remain in office until 2030. First elected in 2013, he now begins a fourth term — after saying in 2022 that he would not stand again.
The result was announced after the secret ballot at Vodacom World. Zungu had publicly predicted victory in the build-up. Jordaan’s Football Transformation Forum held the stronger regional and NEC numbers once voting opened.
Coming into the congress, 52 regions, 10 associate members, the National Soccer League as special member, and 41 NEC members were expected to take part.
Three regions were disqualified from voting, according to SABC: Amajuba in KwaZulu-Natal, Sarah Baartman in the Eastern Cape, and Pixley ka Seme in the Northern Cape.
Other reports also listed Harry Gwala among those barred after Friday’s NEC meeting, leaving 48 regions present.
SAMLFA’s membership and voting rights had already been suspended. Delegates faced tightened security after death-threat reports in the hours before the vote.
