Pirates explain Padime, Pedersen absence in Champions League clash

Orlando Pirates have confirmed why Mpho Padime and Sebastian Pedersen will miss Saturday’s CAF Champions League second leg against La Cure Waves at Orlando Amstel Arena.

The Buccaneers host the Mauritian champions at 3pm today with the tie locked at 0-0 after last weekend’s stalemate in Port Louis. Captain Nkosinathi Sibisi is back in contention after injury, but several first-team names remain unavailable.

The club said: “Orlando Pirates host Le Cure Sylvester at the Orlando Amstel Arena later today in the second leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary tie.

“Captain Nkosinathi Sibisi has recovered from injury and is available for selection. Andre De Jong, Thalente Mbatha, Evidence Makgopa, Gampani Lungu and Sihle Nduli remain sidelined as they recover from their respective injuries.

“Tshepang Moremi will serve the second and final match of his suspension. He will be available for selection in the next round, should the Buccaneers progress.

“Orlando Pirates can also confirm that the trio of Sifiso Luthuli, Mpho Padime and Sebastian Pedersen are also unavailable, due to not being registered. They will be registered when the next registration window opens.”

That registration snag is the key takeaway for fans expecting Padime and new striker Pedersen to feature. Both stay on the sidelines until the next window opens.

Pirates XI: Chaine, Sebelebele, Rapoo, Seema, Sibisi, Mthiyane, Mokobodi, Masilela, Kgositsile, Appollis, Mbuthuma

Subs: Dladla, Sibisi, Ndaba, Derbyshire, Dansin, Selepe, Nemtajela, Ngwato, Radiopane
