Messi buys a second Spanish club Eldense
Lionel Messi has agreed in principle to take control of CD Eldense, the Segunda División club confirmed on Thursday, adding a second Spanish project to his growing ownership portfolio.
The inland Alicante side would become Messi’s first professional club as majority owner.
In April he bought fifth-tier Cornellà. Eldense sit 20th after four games and sacked coach Claudio Barragán this week.
The 39-year-old still plays for Inter Miami and retired from international football after Argentina lost the World Cup final to Spain this summer.
“CD Eldense can confirm that Lionel Messi has reached an agreement in principle with the club’s current owners to acquire the shares currently held by Grupo TH Soluciones, which would make him the majority shareholder of CD Eldense,” the club told AFP.
The deal is not done yet. Eldense said the sale still needs “final legal and contractual procedures.
These include the due diligence process, as well as the required authorisation from the Spanish Sports Council (CSD).”
No price or completion date has been given. “Once the relevant procedures have been completed and the necessary authorisations obtained, CD Eldense will officially report any developments,” added the club, founded in 1921.
