Torres hat-trick fires PSG past Slovan as Liverpool fight back to beat Atlético
PSG opened their Champions League defence with a 6-1 demolition of Slovan Bratislava, while Liverpool came from behind to beat Atlético Madrid 2-1 at Anfield.
Ferran Torres marked his Champions League debut for Paris Saint-Germain with a hat-trick as the holders dismantled Yaya Touré’s side at the Parc des Princes.
Ousmane Dembélé set the tone, scoring twice in six first-half minutes — first lashing in a rebound after Nuno Mendes hit the post, then nodding in a deflected cross.
Torres tapped in Dembélé’s cut-back just after the half-hour and added his second immediately after the restart.
He completed the treble in the 57th minute with an awkward knee-shank that somehow found the corner.
Suleiman Camara pulled one back for Slovan, but Fabián Ruiz finished the scoring from a mishit clearance. Luis Enrique named a strong side featuring several Ballon d’Or nominees.
Torres later noted that PSG still needed to find their rhythm in Ligue 1 after a slow domestic start. But the European champions looked sharp against the Slovak title-holders. Tougher tests against Manchester City and Barcelona await.
At Anfield, Atlético took a 17th-minute lead when Julián Álvarez, starting for the first time this season, set up Marcos Llorente to chip Alisson.
Liverpool equalised before half-time through Dominik Szoboszlai after a clever back-heel from Ronald Araújo.
Alexis Mac Allister then smashed the winner from outside the box five minutes into the second half. Atlético could not respond.
The result gave Arne Slot’s side successive wins after their Premier League victory at Ipswich.
Both matches delivered the kind of open, high-scoring football the new league-phase format often produces.
