Hawks Shut Down Suspected Mandrax Lab In Erasmia
Two foreign nationals have been arrested after the Hawks uncover a suspected Mandrax manufacturing laboratory in Erasmia, west of Pretoria, on Wednesday.
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), through its South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB), conducted the operation following information from Crime Intelligence Head Office.
Investigators have uncovered what appears to be a fully operational clandestine Mandrax laboratory, with the operation estimated to be worth millions of rand.
The exact value of the drugs, chemicals and equipment seized has not yet been confirmed.
Deputy National Commissioner for Policing Lieutenant-General Tebello Mosikili is at the scene and is being briefed on the operation.
Lieutenant-Colonel Christopher Singo is expected to provide further details on the arrests and items seized.
The identities and nationalities of the two suspects, as well as the charges they face, have not yet been confirmed.
The operation is ongoing as forensic investigators process the scene and gather evidence.
