Mokoena calls goal against Arrows ‘normal’ as he sets points target for Downs
Teboho Mokoena wants Mamelodi Sundowns to keep their winning run going when they host Siwelele FC in the Betway Premiership at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday night.
The Brazilians arrive on the back of four straight wins across all competitions. Mokoena was central to the latest one, scoring a late winner as Sundowns beat Golden Arrows 2-1 away on Sunday.
Siwelele are still looking for their first league win of the season. They have two draws and three defeats from five matches.
“Of course the next three games are very important for us. We need nine points and hopefully we get those nine so that we are in a good position on the log,” Mokoena told the Sundowns media team.
The 29-year-old Bafana Bafana midfielder also looked back on the hard-fought win over Arrows. He said the hosts made life difficult for the African champions and felt Sundowns should have been more clinical.
“It was a difficult game. I think Arrows played well and made it difficult for us. I think we played well in the first half,” he said.
“But we played in patches in the second half. If we fix our final third actions, then we will score a lot of goals. But it was a nice game for the fans, but it was not a nice game for us.
“We played well on the counter-attack and we had a lot of chances, but we couldn’t take them. I have scored the same goal in training, so it’s normal. It was my son’s birthday, so it was a present for him.”
Siwelele have already changed their technical team after a poor start. Head coach Lehlohonolo Seema and assistant Willem Jackson have been relieved of their duties while the club reviews performances.
Godfrey Mosoetsa will take charge from the bench against Sundowns.
